Some exciting news!

I know the past few weeks have been full of changes, we're not done yet. We've got a bit more exciting news that we want to share with the community!

We're laying out plans of moving to a brand new dedicated server! Currently, here's what we're running our 6 servers on:

Quad Core, 2.4ghz
in Washington, D.C.

And this is what we're planning on switching to:

EIGHT core, 2.0ghz
in Chicago

Basically, we're looking at a 67% increase in raw clock speed, double our RAM, increased storage, and a MUCH better location for a lot of our members. I realize this could potentially lower the pings of our overseas friends, and a lot of our Canadian members, but hopefully the increase in hardware can make up for that. :)

Our initial plan was to purchase this new box middle of this month, and run both boxes in parallel while we get the new servers set up. We'll be building each from scratch, which will hopefully squash some hidden bugs that we haven't been able to find. Depending on how donations go early-middle this month, we may have to wait a bit longer to roll out the new box, we'll just have to see.

This is going to greatly expand our potential as a community. With such an increase in hardware, we'll likely be able to up the slots on some of our more popular servers, as well as potentially add more servers! One downfall to this is that we're going to have to change our server IPs. Hopefully we'll be able to get the word out to our regulars that don't visit the forums so we won't lose anyone. We'll still be able to use to connect, so that'll help a bit.

Once this plan gets put into action, we'll be sure to announce it much more heavily in the servers and on the forums.
